Blindfolded Flipping
July 25th, 2007
There are 100 coins on the table. 90 of the coins have their Heads face up, the other 10 have their Tails face up. Your task is to split the coins into two groups, such that both groups contain the same number of coins with their Heads face up. You are even allowed to flip the coins…
The catch is that you cannot see the coins – you are blindfolded!
What is your strategy?

Sounds very easy, if you are allowed to rub the coins

Matan, good point!
Well, you are NOT allowed to rub the coins. Or rather, you are allowed to rub them, but both faces (heads and tails) feel the same.
I hope the reason you wanted to rub them was indeed in order detect which face was facing upward (and not for some sort of sexual pleasure…).
On a more serious note – none of the riddles on my site have this kind of “cheap” trick (such as rubbing the coins). I hate such riddles and will not post them.
Anyway, it is still a very easy riddle…

You did not say coins of which country, maybe Matan has a thing for the english queen?

this riddle was in the show hashminia
one of the nicer ones in my opinion, although indeed 10 year-olds could solve it
