Ah, found page 2 ^^

Thoughts on cutting the cake: use the two first cuts to cut a cross, making 4 identical pieces. Now use the third cut to cut through the center of the cake horizontally, making 8 pieces, stacked two and two. Don't see any other way of doing it...

Hi Jonas,

In the future try to post solution related comments on the second page of riddle posts. That way the riddles aren't ruined for other people. You will also notice that your solution was already submitted 8-) .

Well, your solution is nevertheless correct - so anyway, thank you for submitting it!

Colorblind Pills: Take each pill, cut it in half and place the halves in seperate piles. You end up having two equal piles of halved pills, basically two half doses of your original 4 pills. Eat 1 pile the first night and 1 the second night =)

Yes, your solution is more practical. It reminds me of the person who has to split 7 equal pieces of metal into 12 identical subsets, with the least amount of cutting.

Seb, your solution is of course correct.

Mine is essentially the same, but a little more usable in practice - you cut all four pills in half and eat one half of each pill on the first day, and the second half on the second day.

For the pills: you melt or dissolve the four pills in water, mix thoroughly, and drink one half of the mixture on the first day, and the second half on the second day.

Does the solution work 100% of the time, or is 66% of the time enough for a fatal disease?

Hi Rae,

No, the solution does not involve colorblind people's ability to distinguish between red and blue (I didn't even know they had such an ability :-) ).

There is a general solution in the case that the pills were of the exact same color (or equivalently that the person is really blind).

The solution even works if there is no test whatsoever that you could employ to detect whether the pills are of type Biaxin or Robaxin (well other than trying to eat them and finding out whether you died or not, but then its a little too late...).

If you feel stuck, let me know and I will post a solution.

I'm having some trouble with the colour blind pill problem. Does the solution have something to do with the fact that colour-blind people actually can distinguish between red and blue, or is there a logical solution that would work if both the pill were actually the same colour?

I actually think taking away the "mix well" part makes the riddle harder and not easier, but nevermind, since it's very easy in any case! :)

(I actually think it's a fun riddle anyway, since the answer contradicts my initial intuition)

Seb,

The pills aren't in their boxes and they weigh exactly the same. Actually all of their "measurable" features are the same.

Of course the riddle remains unchanged when taking away the "mix well" part, but when writing it I thought that taking it away would make it easier - and it is already easy enough! 8-) .

Cutting the cake: I knew of the 8 pieces. I found a way to cut 14 pieces (not identical) in 4 cuts.

Colorblind pills: I imagine the pills aren't in their boxes... what about their weight?

Cup of coffee: this is a good one, and it is really fun. I even generalized it, by taking away the "mix well" part. What do you think happens in that case?
